Manchester school of architecture - statement essay

Why do I want to study architecture at MSA?  Having carefully searched through the options of the world education, I can state that my firm preference for the British Universities is based on the eminent excellence of their faculties, the rich academic sources they offer and the engaging academic ambiance they create. Firstly, MSA has impressed me by the great number of architects it educated such as Norman Foster, and due to the fact that it is ranked among the best architecture course in UK.     MSA is indeed ranked amongst the best in the UK due to the capability of the students to produce high quality works. In terms of beauty, my heart has already been stolen by MSA’s environment. Located in the middle of the historical Manchester City, the architectural beauty lies in every corner of the streets. If given a place at the  Manchester School of Architecture, I will endeavor not merely to become another example of the excellent architecture students which graduate from this top u

PAINTINGS

Image
This painting depicts the evolution of architecture from huts to skyscrapers. Architecture as always been a beauty no matter how simple or complex the structure is. I used acrylic paints on an A3 size canvas to paint. I used blue for the skyscrapers to denote that they merge among the clouds and used earth shades to denote that during olden days, houses were so grounded.  This is a watercolour painting which shows the beauty in simplicity of Indian women. The minimalist works on the wall by using just white paint and the elegance of a dark toned women slaying in a red saree, had been depicted here. This is a watercolour painting of a lamp which was used in India before electricity was introduced especially during festivals due to its traditional structure. This is in the shape of a swan because in Indian mythology, swans were considered as the most favourite creature of the goddesses.  I painted this by getting inspired from the painting ' The son of a man' by Rene Magritte.

SCULPTURE

Image
Sculpture making ( clay modelling ) First, I sketched the image for reference, and began building the structure using clay. I started my building the basic face structure, followed by neck and hair. Then, I marked guidelines on the face for the facial features. Once the structure was finally done, I added little details on the hair.

FIGURATIVE STUDY

Image
Figurative study of a man These are the sketches of a man sitting in two different positions from two different perspectives.  The first picture if the sketch of a man from a side view with his arms on his lap and legs crossed. The second picture is the sketch of the same man with one of his arms resting on the bench and opened legs.  Figurative study of a girl  The first picture is the sketch of a girl with two different poses. I slightly shifted the perspective and made the second sketch. In this next picture, I sketched the girl in a sitting posture.

DIGITAL ART

Image
POSTER MAKING This is a poster consisting the diverse beauty of culture all over the world. I used ' Adobe photoshop' to create this poster. It represents the world with various grandeurs yet turns out to be the 'living' planet in the universe.  Swami Vivekananda, an Indian philosopher who inspired me a lot is the subject in this poster as he deeply believed in unity among diversity.  PORTRAITS I do commissioned works for clients through my Instagram business and my Pinterest. I use 'Procreate' application for my vector art works. These are few of them. The first picture is the digital portrait of a beautiful family of three. This was made as a wallet card and shipped. The second picture is a woman in saree which is the traditional attire of India. I had difficulties in creating the folding and depth of the saree but wanted to add it in my portfolio to show how I've learnt this form of art all by myself.

STILL LIFE

Image
SAUCE PAN This is a sauce-pan drawn in graphite on an A3 sheet of paper and black pen where the contrast  is stronger. I enjoy doing this type of work, placing things in front of my eyes and trying to draw exactly the same view and for this reason I thought it would be a privilege to add something to my portfolio.   Plastic water bottle and a steel cup I saw this great combination of two things made up of contrast materials and wanted to sketch this immediately. I used graphite pencils on my A4 size sketchbook. Because I used graphite, this bottle and cup more sober and realistic. Arthanareeshwarar This is the statue of lord shiva who divided his body into an entire half along with his wife Parvati to show men and women equality. When I was searching for an inspiration to sketch, I found this statue in our living room which was had a great message. When there's equality among the gods, then why not down here ?

PERSPECTIVE DRAWINGS

Image
This is a sketch of three different objects of a similar shape in three different perspectives. These are three types of speakers and I found in my house in various places. I sketched it together to show the difference in their structure and the role of perspective being played here. This is a drawing of a microphone that I saw in my neighbour's house ad a display piece. I clicked two pictures from two different perspectives. This is a free hand sketch of a hotel in Bangkok that I sketched right there in my A4 sized sketchbook. The fact that I didn't use an eraser amazes me. This took me just 10 to 15 minutes to sketch completely.

MY SMALL BUSINESS

Image
PORTRAIT PAINTING BUSINESS I can proudly call myself a teen entrepreneur as I own a small scale business of minimalist portrait paintings through Instagram. It's customized and shipped to the client's address. I also send them free, surprise works like miniature paintings and I'm glad that I have shipped all over India.  I use the money credited to my work as a charity to the Covid relief welfare. I consider this as a basic gesture for humanity through my talents.   I chose minimalist because it was unique and catchy rather than making a portrait sketch.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Image
LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY I clicked this picture in Dubai in 2019 with my Dslr. This is the picture of sunset in the 'Arabian desert' My family and I went to Dubai for a vacation and that's where I had to capture this amazing moment. I just froze the moment. It's all brown and beige where-ever we turn but still I got to capture the depth of the desert and the layers creates by the sand MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY These are the pictures of the tiniest creatures in my garden. Here, the smallest object is my greatest subject. I used a macro lens of Nikon along with my Nikon D5300 camera to capture the beauty in simplicity.  I always find it interesting to see the movement of insects ad they are minute and each time I capture then, I get amazed by god's creation. A digestive system, nervous system and everything in such a small body!
